"The National Cemetery at Gettysburg" (Gettysburg Address)

Brooklyn Daily Eagle

On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln and other political leaders met on the field of battle in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to dedicate a portion of the field as a National Cemetery. While the main speaker at the event, Edward Everett, spoke for two hours, Lincoln spoke for a mere two minutes. His speech that day stands as one of the greatest orations in American history.

The entire speech was published in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle on November 20, 1863, and is presented in the article here. To read the rest of the article, click here: "The National Cemetery at Gettysburg" (November 20, 1863).
