Cock-a-Doodle MOOOO! A Mixed-Up Menagerie & Other Books by Keith DuQuette

Writing and illustrating children's books gives me a terrific opportunity to explore the wonderful world we live in or to make up a world of my own. Over the years I've worked in both nonfiction and fiction. In my nonfiction books I explore subjects that I'm fascinated by such as architecture or the animal kingdom, and my works of fiction allow me to give life to characters, settings and stories in my head.

In this exhibition I've chosen to display a selection of finished paintings and drawings from my books for young readers. I've also included notes, character sketches, picture reference, page diagrams, book drafts and color studies in hopes of showing a bit of the journey I go through from my initial idea to the finished book.

BPL Exhibition, Keith DuQuetteKeith DuQuette was an impressionable child who at various times wanted to be a pet-shop owner, an architect, a painter, an anthropologist, a cartoonist, a naturalist and a center fielder for the New York Yankees. He is now none of those things. But he draws on all these early influences in creating picture books for young readers. Keith and his wife, Virginia, live in Brooklyn.
