BPL exhbition, Fashion Illustration, Jerry Hall and Antonio Lopez Antonio Lopez (February 11, 1943 – March 17, 1987) Antonio Lopez was influenced by everyday life. Always one to draw from a live model, he captured the energy, movement, personality, sex appeal and gestural nuances of his subject. Everyday people from all walks of life, some of whom later went on to become celebrities in their own right, posed for and inspired his art. Pat Cleveland, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, Jessica Lange, and Tina Chow were some of the many models and muses who posed for Antonio and were later affectionately referred to as ‘Antonio’s Girls.’

Lopez’s influences included not only masters like Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Giovanni Boldini, but inspiration from movies, music, dance and politics as well. He surrounded himself with creative people and references, and from his home base in New York constantly traveled to style capitols Paris, London and Tokyo. Antonio created an authentic and intimate experience with the viewer because of his careful observation, interaction, and immersion into different worlds. This ultimately was reflected and expressed in his artwork which connects and invites the viewer in.

The section of the exhibition devoted to Antonio Lopez will cover three decades of his fashion illustrations. It will highlight some of the rarely seen images from his extraordinary and immense body of work from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
