Library Information

Starting on October 23rd, you can return your materials at one of our branch's self-check machines. It's fast, easy, and you'll get a receipt for your transaction.

The Coney Island Branch started as an unstaffed deposit station in a Surf Avenue store in 1911. It became a fully staffed branch in 1921 after moving to the old offices of the Coney Island Times on Stillwell Ave. In 1954, its new library was called "the first-ever library built on stilts over the Atlantic Ocean."
