    Most digital cameras are packed with advanced features that allow novice photographers to shoot like a pro. In this two-hour session, you ll learn how to use your camera s features and simple tricks to create beautiful digital images. We ll cover digital photography basics like camera settings, resolution and exposure levels, and how to properly white balance to make your pictures pop. Composition theory will be discussed, as will shot types and picture formats that work best in video projects. Please bring your own digital camera fully charged, with plenty of battery power and available memory, to the class. In order to successfully complete this class, participants must be able to comfortably navigate a laptop computer and navigate a computer s interface.

    For the past 116 years the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has strived to make music accessible to all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Directed by Dorothy Savitch, Music Partners was established in 1988 to widen the Conservatory s reach and enhance music education in public schools throughout Brooklyn and Queens. Today we have programs in 31 partner schools and serve 4,650 students, many of whom would have no access to music education without Music Partners. Programming includes band, strings, chorus, world drumming and percussion, recorder, early childhood music and movement, guitar and ukulele. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the program.

Learn simple steps to turn your still images and sound clips into a compelling digital video story--- and share it with a wide audience. In this two-hour session, you ll learn about various types of digital story formats, narrative tips and interviewing techniques, and how to combine your pictures and audio recordings into a video using Garageband, a software program that allows you to create powerful and entertaining media.     Noted translator Alfred MacAdam leads a five-part series on works by Jorge Luis Borges, Carlos Fuentes and Gabriel Garca Mrquez. This first session is a general introduction to Latin American literature, with particular attention to Borges, the Argentine short-story writer, essayist, poet and translator.

BRIC is also the community media access television organization for Brooklyn, offering residents free access to media production facilities and equipment, low cost media education, and an opportunity to create their own program on Brooklyn Free Speech Television. BRIC offers periodic orientations at the library so that you can become familiar with community access television, their services available, as well as the wide range of in-depth production classes offered at the center. After taking orientation, you will be able to register for their certification classes, and be on your way to producing your own TV show!

    A panel of three writers, all of whom received major Russian literary awards: Andrei Gelasimov, the winner of 2009 National Bestseller for his novel "The Gods of the Steppe"; poet Maxim Amelin, the winner of 2013 Alexander Solzhenitsyn Award, and novelist and literary historian Alexei Varlamov, the winner of the 2009 Big Book Award for his fictionalized biography of the writer Alexei Tolstoi.
