HELPS BROOKLYNITES CREATE THEIR OWN BUSINESSES

Winners of Power UP! Announced


WHAT: BPL's Business Library will announce the winners of its 2nd Annual Power UP! Business Plan Competition. Thanks to the generosity of Citigroup, the sponsor of Power UP! the first place winner will receive $15,000 and the two runners-up will receive $5,000. A package of services worth $5,000 will be awarded to all three entrepreneurs.

An Entrepreneur Expo will be held prior to the announcement from 10:30 AM to 1 PM.

WHO:Ginnie Cooper, Executive Director of BPL
Farid Ali and George Constantinou, Winners of the 2002-2003 Power Up! Business plan competition who leveraged their prize money to open Brooklyn's Bogota Café Bistro.

BACKGROUND: More than 280 individuals participated in the 2004-2005 Power Up!. These participants attended BPL classes on creating business plans, marketing, budgetary principles, and using resources available at the Business Library and on its website. Of the pool of applicants, 67 submitted business plans that were reviewed by a panel of judges. Winners of 2002-2003 Power Up! have started thriving new businesses in Brooklyn, including a yoga studio and retail sports store.
