BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY
OFFERS "ARE YOU READY FOR THE GED?" PROGRAM
AT BPL NEIGHBORHOOD LIBRARIES
Brooklyn, NY, April 1, 2005 – For adult learners seeking a General Educational Development (GED) program -- who don’t know where to start -- Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) offers "Are You Ready for the GED?" This free educational counseling program provides certified BPL staff who advise adult learners about how to best prepare for the GED. The program runs from April 7 through May 25, 2005 at various BPL neighborhood libraries. Please refer to the attached schedule for times and locations.
"Are You Ready for the GED?" is available to teenagers and adults over the age of 17, without high school diplomas, who are officially out of school. During the two-hour session, adult learners will take a sample placement test. Certified BPL staff will then help attendees identify their educational level and answer questions about the GED and Pre-GED — a series of state-funded classes that prepare students for the GED by bringing them to a 9th grade level in reading, writing and math. These classes are also offered by BPL.
Anyone who attends BPL's "Are You Ready for the GED?" will obtain:
An overview of the GED and pre-GED
An understanding of their level of academic preparedness
Information on registering for the GED
Tips on preparing for the test
Knowledge about the format of standardized tests
Information on figuring out GED scores once they are received
Advice on study methods and test strategies
Details on how and where to enroll for a preparation course
