EASTERN PARKWAY AND CARROLL GARDENS LIBRARIES
WILL CLOSE TEMPORARILY TO UNDERGO REPAIR WORK

Brooklyn, NY, August 19, 2005 – Brooklyn Public Library's Eastern Parkway Library, located at 1044 Eastern Parkway near Schenectady Avenue, will close on Saturday, August 27, 2005, and is expected to reopen on Monday, September 12. The ten-day closing will allow contractors to replace the boiler and repair the Library's sidewalks. Customers of Eastern Parkway Library can visit near by Crown Heights Library, located at 560 New York Avenue near Maple Street, and Brower Park Library, located at 725 St. Marks Avenue near Nostrand Avenue, for library service.

Additionally, Carroll Gardens Library, located at 396 Clinton Street near Union Street, will close for one day of interior work on Tuesday, August 23, 2005. Carroll Gardens Library is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, August 24, 2005. Near by Pacific Library, located at 25 Fourth Avenue at Pacific Street, will remain open.

While these libraries are closed, customers can return items they have borrowed to any other library in the borough. Library users can renew items over the telephone or online. No overdue fines will be charged to Eastern Parkway or Carroll Gardens Library customers during these closure periods.

"There is never a good time to close a library," said Mary Graham, Director of Neighborhood Services of Brooklyn Public Library. "However, these short closures are needed to improve the libraries so they can remain open throughout the entire school year."
