STEP UP TO A BETTER JOB WITH HELP FROM BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY

May 4, 2007

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) has expanded its employment-related resources and programs for English- and Spanish-speaking job seekers through Skills Training & Employment Project (STEP). Available through March 2008, STEP will offer a variety of free services at BPL’s Central, Business, and Marcy libraries to help job hunters navigate the employment world – and now in Spanish.

Kerwin Pilgrim, BPL’s STEP Project Manager said, “At Brooklyn Public Library, we simplify the job search process by connecting people seeking work with free tools, workshops and a network of community partners that can boost job seekers towards their career goals. I encourage all Brooklynites seeking work to STEP up to career success by taking advantage of our free counseling services, informative workshops, and rich employment resources.”

Job seekers will have opportunities to meet one-on-one with career advisors, attend workshops in interviewing skills and resume writing, prepare for career placement tests, and connect with community organizations that offer training and job placement. Additionally, all participants will be encouraged to explore BPL’s voluminous collection of employment-related materials and resources – in English and Spanish.

Mr. Pilgrim added, "through STEP both English and Spanish speakers can get quality interpersonal time with career advisors who can help job seekers target their employment searches, assess their skill sets, and discover free resources available at Brooklyn Public Library."

Following is a schedule of STEP workshops at BPL.
