Everyone who receives Social Security or other federal benefit payments by paper check is now required to switch to an electronic payment option by March 1, 2013.

  • The Direct Express® card – A prepaid debit card giving people without bank accounts a safe, easy alternative to paper checks. There are no sign-up fees, monthly fees or overdraft charges, and the card can be used to make purchases, get cash and pay bills. To sign up, call toll-free (877) 212-9991, go online to www.USDirectExpress.com, or visit your local Social Security office.
