Letter from a Books by Mail Patron

Every once in a while, we get a hand-written letter from one of our Books by Mail participants. Sometimes we have to share them.

Here is one of our favorites:

To the general public, members of the police dept. and fire dept. are deservedly know as life-savers.

To me and certainly to your other readers, librarians are in their own way, very much life-savers. The "Service to the Aging" branch provides us with books that give us excitement, humor and memories of romance, that may very well extend our lives.

A social worker visited me recently for an annual "how are you getting along" checkup. She asked many questions and the last one was, "do you ever think of ending your life?" I managed to hide my shock and said, "No, I get so many good books to read, it's something look forward to."

Thanx,

Ruth
