Calling all young writers! The Writers Guild Initiative and Brooklyn Public Library are partnering to offer creative writing workshops for teens in grades 9-12.

No writing experience is required. All participants need to have is a desire to write and explore their creativity, and a pen and paper. Spelling, grammar and punctuation do not matter. Our workshops are an opportunity to explore storytelling in all its forms! This series is especially recommended to those with an interest in intellectual freedom.

The workshops are in-person and pair small groups of participants with two writing mentors for two three-hour sessions of writing exercises. Teens must commit to attending both sessions:

  • Part A - Tuesday, July 23, 2024, 12 pm-4 pm
  • Part B - Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 12 pm-4 pm

Everything shared in the rooms is completely confidential and all writing done in the workshop belongs exclusively to the participant who wrote it.

Interested? Please register no later than 11:59pm June 8 to receive a link to a short application. You can also send an email to teenwriting@bklynlibrary.org to receive the link. Space is limited and applicants will receive a confirmation of their spot after their application has been reviewed.

The Writers Guild Initiative (WGI) is an independent non-profit organization affiliated with the Writers Guild of America, East. WGI is dedicated to bringing together professional writers together with vulnerable communities who would benefit from self-expression through creative writing.
