Brooklyn Public Library Earns Place in 2015 InformationWeek Elite 100

Library Recognized for Use of Technology to Manage Collections, Serve Patrons

Brooklyn, NY: Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) has been recognized as one of the 2015 InformationWeek Elite 100, a ranking of the top business technology innovators in the United States, the library system announced today. A full list of awardees, including several Fortune 500 companies, can be found at informationweek.com/elite100. BPL is the only library to have made the list.

The Library earned recognition for its use of visualization software Tableau, which has allowed staff to develop programs and manage local branch collections to better meet patrons’ needs. For instance, librarians are now able to curate book displays based on borrowing patterns at their branches.

“Brooklyn Public Library employs technology to make our operations more efficient and our services to patrons more personalized,” said Library President and CEO Linda Johnson. “As a result of our partnership with Tableau, BPL’s 60 branches are more responsive than ever to the needs of the communities they serve.”

The Library is in excellent company in the Elite 100. Other public institutions to have made the list include NASA and the Jet Propulsion Lab at the California Institute of Technology. BPL also earned a nomination for InformationWeek’s Business Innovator award.

"The 2015 InformationWeek Elite 100 spotlights companies at which IT is not only inseparable from every department, it's pivotal to every customer experience," said InformationWeek Editor Chris Murphy.

This is InformationWeek’s 27th year of identifying and honoring the nation's most innovative users of information technology. The InformationWeek Elite 100 research tracks the technology-based investments, strategies and results of some of the best-known organizations in the country.
