Brooklyn Public Library Hosts “Take Your Child to the Library Week”

Brooklynites Can Enjoy Free, Family-Friendly Programming from February 2-7

Brooklyn, New York—Brooklyn Public Library announced today that it will once again host “Take Your Child to the Library Week.” BPL will offer free, family-friendly programs at branches throughout the borough for a week of fun and education that begins on February 2 and will culminate in “Take Your Child to the Library Day” on February 7.

Featuring Legos and live music, stomping and South African storytelling, “Take Your Child to the Library Week” promises excitement for children of all ages. On the 7th, 35 BPL branches will celebrate “Take Your Child to the Library Day” with family read-aloud events that transform the act of reading—often a solitary pleasure—into a joyous communal experience.

“Brooklyn Public Library helps children develop critical reading, writing, math, and digital literacy skills,” said Linda E. Johnson, President & Chief Executive Officer of Brooklyn Public Library. “We also know how to have fun. ‘Take Your Child to the Library Week’ combines education and play to connect Brooklynites with the Library’s many helpful services and enriching activities.”

In addition to its free activities for Brooklyn families, “Take Your Child to the Library Week”—a partnership of Brooklyn Public Library, NYC Early Learning Network, and the New York City Administration for Children’s Services—will introduce visitors to the Library’s numerous resources for children, including the After-School Homework Helper program and First Five Years, a suite of pre-kindergarten literacy initiatives.
