Hey Brooklyn, What’s Your Problem?

Neighborhood Challenges Giving You the Blues? Puzzled About Safety, the Environment or the Economy? Submit Your Problem to Brooklyn Public Library’s UX Design-a-Thon and We Will Help You Solve It

Brooklyn, NY— Brooklyn Public Library’s Business and Career Center is soliciting ideas from the public for our upcoming User Experience (UX) Design-a-Thon. We will consider ideas large or small and anyone can submit a Brooklyn problem: street parking rules are too confusing; affordable apartments are hard to find; supermarkets are too far away; trash is accumulating; streets are not well lit. Our Flex into UX design crew is on the case. They will select one problem and work on fresh new ideas to solve it.

Want to share your problem? You must submit your ideas by the end of business on Friday, September 8.

What’s Flex In UX? Flex Into UX is a series of free classes offered by BPL’s Business and Career Center in collaboration with Kingsborough College's Center for Workforce Development. Participants in the program have spent the summer learning the tools and techniques of user experience design, a field which focuses on creating products and digital environments that are easy and enjoyable for people to use. UX designers think about the needs of the person using a product or service and make sure the design meets those needs.

The Design-a-Thon will give participants a chance to apply their skills and produce a project draft that can become part of their professional portfolio all while solving a real-life user-submitted Brooklyn problem.

Teams from the Flex into UX program will present their ideas on September 30 to a panel of judges at BPL’s Business and Career Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza.

Remember you must submit your ideas by the end of business on Friday, September 8.

Flex Into UX and the Design-a-Thon are a product of the Library’s BKLYN Incubator initiative which supports innovative programs, fostering partnerships between library staff and community partners to develop new ideas to serve our communities. Some of our most beloved Library programs got their start with BKLYN Incubator including the Fashion Academy, Musical Instrument Lending Library, BKLYN Robotics League, Cookmobile and more.
