Councilmember Narcisse Announces $3M for Capital Improvements as Jamaica Bay Library celebrates its 50th Year
Borough President Reynoso Announces an Additional $1M for Library Upgrades

Brooklyn, NY— New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Council Member Mercedes Narcisse and Brooklyn Deputy Borough President Kim Council held a press conference at Jamaica Bay Library to announce $4 million in funding for capital improvements. Council Member Narcisse announced a $3 million capital grant and Borough President Reynoso allocated $1 million in funding to upgrade the roof, HVAC, fire and safety systems in the FY24 budget. 

Brooklyn Public Library President and CEO Linda Johnson recognized the leaders for their ongoing and enthusiastic support of libraries in Brooklyn and across New York City.

“As Jamaica Bay Library celebrates 50 years serving the community, we extend our sincere thanks to Council Speaker Adrienne Adams for her leadership and tireless advocacy for this branch and for public libraries all across New York City,” said Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO, Brooklyn Public Library. “We also extend our gratitude to Council Member Narcisse and Borough President Reynoso. Their funding for improvements to the branch will ensure that we continue to provide a safe, welcoming space for generations to come.”

First opened in 1973, the Library has served families in the split-level building, located near the Jamaica Bay Coastal Lagoon, for 50 years. Jamaica Bay Library offers a wide range of programs for the community including resume help, a craft club, story times in English and Spanish, fitness classes, and teen programs including an NBA 2k23 tournament.
