Windsor Terrace Library to Re-Open In July

Brooklyn, NY—Windsor Terrace Library is scheduled to reopen this summer after a closure to replace the HVAC system, make electrical upgrades and refresh the interior. Starting July 19, patrons will be able to pick-up and return books, browse the collection, access technology and participate in outdoor programs at the refreshed Windsor Terrace Library.

The Library has a new Building Management System (BMS) which allows for improved control of heat and air conditioning as well as providing energy savings. The branch was also painted and patrons will find new flooring, and electrical upgrades including tabletop outlets and USB ports.

“Have you ever been to a protest meeting that turned into a gorgeous elegy for how much we love our branch libraries? Well, that’s exactly what happened two years ago, when we sat with neighbors of the Windsor Terrace Library on the night before it closed for renovation,” said Council Member Brad Lander. “As our city slowly re-opens, I can’t wait to join neighbors as they return to this beloved branch for story time and senior exercise classes, for growing plants and growing minds."

The complex project required removal and replacement of all of the ageing ductwork from the building which is over 50 years old. It also included temporary removal of the ceiling, and security and fire alarm system equipment.

A rooftop antenna has also been installed on Windsor Terrace Library to extend its free wireless internet signal 300 feet into the neighborhood. Later this summer, outdoor furniture will be installed so library patrons can sit outside, use the Wi-Fi for work or school, and connect safely with friends or co-workers.

The current building opened In 1969 but the Windsor Terrace community has been served by a library for nearly 100 years. The first collection of 3000 books operated out of a local pharmacy.

“After two years of much need repairs and improvements, I and the entire Windsor Terrace community are very excited for the reopening of the Windsor Terrace Library. With an improved HVAC system, new USB ports, free WIFI, and an updated interior I know the library will better serve the thousands of people in the community who use the branch regularly," said Assembly Member Robert Carroll. "I grew up going to the Windsor Terrace Library and can’t wait to take advantage of the improved amenities.”
