If you need help connecting to social services such as childcare referrals, housing assistance, learn how to connect with employment opportunities, navigate college and training programs, and more, we can assist you! We're offering free one-on-one in-person social services sessions (case management). You must be eligible for our enrollment programs to receive case management assistance. Eligibility: seeking to finish your HSE diploma, enroll in preparation classes to improve your skills for the GED exam, and/or seeking to improve your English speaking skills.

Do you need to improve your reading and writing skills? We can help.

Brooklyn Public Library Adult Learning Centers provide free innovative educational programs for adult learners and speakers of other languages. Through books, technology and interactive classroom instruction taught by professional and friendly instructors and tutors, adults build the skills needed to meet their personal, educational and employment goals.

There are five Adult Learning Centers with full-time professional staff and volunteers who are ready to help you reach your goals with FREE programs and classes. Groups/classes are for participants 17 years and older who are functioning below the high school level. Emphasis is on Reading, Writing, and HSE preparation. All programs and classes are available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays.

What we do
  • Basic Literacy
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE)
  • Assist with obtaining your high school equivalency diploma (HSE) in English to pass the GED exam
  • Brush up on your skills by enrolling in a Fast Track HSE class before taking the GED exam
  • Enhanced Young Adult Literacy Program (17-24 yrs. old)
  • Take the GED exam (English or Spanish)
  • National External Diploma Program (NEDP)
  • Earn an industry recognized national credential (front desk rep.)
  • Citizenship Prep
  • Computer Literacy
  • Educational workshops
  • Case management services
