Give support, assistance, and encouragement to teenagers in grades 9-12 as they prepare for standardized tests, apply for college, and complete homework assignments.
Responsibilities
- Assist High School students with assignments on different subjects, such as math (algebra geometry, pre-calculus), English literature and composition, American and world history, government and economics, biology, chemistry and physics.
- Provide assistance with standardized tests, including AP, Regents and SATs.
- Provide information on colleges, assist with applications, personal essays and encourage a successful transition into higher education.
- Introduce students to career preparation skills and techniques including resume writing, interviewing and networking.
- Encourage the development of math skills through the use of Web-based technology.
- Promote the use of library resources by referring teens to an on-staff specialist, when appropriate.

Program Notes
- Training is provided.
- Shifts are available Monday - Thursday afternoons between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM at the Central Library and neighborhood libraries.
- Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of two to three hours per week, for a period of at least six months.
- BPL will conduct an investigative background check on volunteers 18 and older, which may be used when considering a prospective volunteer's application.
